Banteay Shrey (City of Shiva, citadel of the woman)

This magnificently preserved temple dates from the Xth century and is the most charming of Angkor. It's a sculptured jewel what changes colors following the sunshine. Several very well preserved pavilions, facades of which are finely sculptured by a multitude of flowery motives and by scenes of the Indian mythology, of real laces. The archaeologist Maurice Clay qualifies it as "most beautiful of the Khmer temples ". Baptized" the citadel of the Women "it is completely decorated with reliefs of a surprising perfection.    Kbal Spean, river of the thousand linga’s.

Kbal Spean, consists of sculptures dug in the cliff on the bed of the river of a 200 meter length between a bridge and a waterfall. These sculptures sanctify the water of the river and dates between XI and XIIIth century. To go there, after having seen Banteay Shrey magnificent sculptures, there's at first a road of about 12 km, and then approximately 40 minutes walking in the jungle on a small fitted out path. Several hundreds of "linga’s" (representation of the sex of the god Shiva in the Hinduism) are sculptured by groups in the river sculptures of Hanuman (the monkey god), of Ram and, Lakshmi as well as that of richened Vishny meditating in a cosmic sleep on the essential ocean. Kbal Spien's water joins the rivers Sieam Reap and Puok by way of Angkor Wat's temple.
